Happy Birth Days

Fourteen years ago today, I was in pain. A lot of pain. The kind of pain that requires an IV of drugs, cursing, and punching the nearest person in the face.

Labor pains.

Birthing pains.

Parenting pains.

My son is fourteen today. I asked him this morning if he thought he'd survive this long (you know, being raised by me an' all) and he said, "No." Then I said, "Yay, survival! Happy Birthday! Get out of bed, it's time to get ready for school!" We celebrate big time, don't we?

In a weird coincidence (although, this is ME we're talking about), the second book in the Wizards of Nevermore series is out today, too ... NOW OR NEVER. Birthing that book brought a different kind of pain. It was a whole lot of WTF was I thinking? mixed with sweat and tears (i.e. copious weeping) and a couple of sacrifices to the gods.

While I celebrate fourteen stress-free years of bliss and serenity (hahahahahahahah ... ahahahahahahah), I invite you to join the par-tay at my Minions Yahoo! group. There's a free prezzie for all list members (if you join, you get it, and no, I'm not giving hints).

If you leave a comment on this post, you'll be entered to win an a guest appearance in ONLY LYCANS NEED APPLY. I'll put your name in the acknowledgements, or as a cameo appearance in the book. Your choice! I'm picking one winner from the blog and one from the Minions ... and I'll announce the winners Thursday morning-ish.

Congratulations on letting your son survive 14 years! My birthday was the 4th and I wasn't feeling too old until today when a nurse said "you don't look that old, I mean, you look young. Not that you're old," the poor girl just made me feel even more old by trying to make it better. LOL.

Ever since having my first child 10 years ago I've felt that us moms should get a cake each year too, in celebration of our hard work carrying that kid inside for all those months and then the birthing. I really enjoyed the Broken Heart, Oklahoma books; thanks for writing them!

Happy belated B-day mini-MB! Thanks for driving her just nuts enough to live to tell the tale AND write my favorite book series :) Keep up the good work (seriously, you should get paid for that kind of 24-7 diligence).

Congrats to my fantasy facilitator and her minion wielding ways! Book club's gonna have a field day with the new book! I think a chocolate party will cover both events nicely :)

Winks and fist bumps,

As of mother of twins I know how stressful it can be to raise a child in this day and age but I also know how much enjoyment they can bring you. Happy Birthday to your son and thank you for making my life a little sainer all these years by being able to escape with reading your books.

I bet the contest is already over, isn't it?? I'm always too late for everything...in real life and in the virtual one...true story...

I've been infected with the MBV - Michele Bardsley Virus - some time
ago, and I just signed up for your Minions...lol...
I would really love to "par-tay" in that group and be one of your minions. And maybe having an English speaking German minion
might come in handy? Who knows... *grin*
Also I would REALLY love to have a female wolfie character with my name in one of your future
books...lol
That would just be even better than a box of chocolates...even Swiss or German ones...hihi
And of course a very happy belated birthday to the boy! :D

Hey, happy birthday to your son. I'm sure he's pretty glad that he made it to 14 alive and well. I'm surprised that I made it past 14 without one of my parents trying to run me over with the car... I was sort of a mean child. ;)
